CHAPTER 1: IT’S ENGLISH TIME!

From now on I will use English in my English class.

Materials:

·         to get attention,

·         to check if we are understood,

·         to show appreciation to others, and

·         to tell what we or other people  thinks of something

Words or Expression to enrich your vocabulary

·         English time (waktunya berbahasa Inggris )

·         From now on ( mulai saat ini )

·         I will … ( use) – (  akan menggunakan)

·         English Class ( kelas Bahasa Inggris )

·         Getting attention ( meminta perhatian )

·         Checking if we are understand ( mengechek apakah kita mengerti )

·         Showing appreciation to others ( Menunjukkan penghargaan )

·         Telling what other people thinks of something

(  menceritakan apa yang orang lain pikirkan tentang sesuatu )

Function

·         To get someone’s attention when you want to deliver announcement (pengumuman)in front of the class, and you become the centre of the attention and the class listen to speech or announcement

Example of common expression in getting someone’s attention:

UNGKAPAKN UNTUK MENDAPATKAN PERHATIHAN SESEORANG

·         Everybody, may I have your attention, please?   

·         Attention, please…  

·         Excuse me, may I have your attention, please  

·         Can I have your attention, please …

·         Look at this!

·         Check this out! Coba check!

·         Listen to me! – dengarkan saya!

·         Hey, look here! Hei.. lihat sini!

·         Guess what! /tebak apa!

·         Hello!

Example if someone Is giving attention:

·      Yes, Please… / Silahkan..

·      Really? (sungguh?)

·      Sure / tentu

·      Yes, mam/sir / ya pak-bu

·      I know what you mean / saya tahu apa apa yang kamu maksud

·      Then what happened after that? / setelah itu apa yang terjadi?

·      What‘s next / berikutnya apa?

·      Ok.

·      I see / oh, begitu

·      What is it, sir? ( apa itu pak... )

PRACTICE / DRILL

Dialog 3:

Rizky   : May I have your attention, please? We have to collect the assignment on our teacher’s table now, have you finished it yet?

Rizky   : Yes, I have.

Siti    : off course yes.

Indri   : Unfortunately, I haven’t.

Rizky   : What’s up with you, what did you do?

Indri   : Sorry, I have lied. I did not bring my assignment. It was left at home.

Rizky   : You have to write again, there will be enough time to it.

Indri   : Do you want to wait me?

Rizky   : Of course, hurry up, guys.

Indri   : Thank you so much.
